Whistleblowers RATNA ALA 38 blind sarpanch of Rangpur village in Rajkot district GUJARAT Narmada drinking water in the villege thanks to Ratna ala. His is a most curious story.Though born blind he found during his daily walk on the main road to the village that it was potholed though resurfaced twice in two years. This was in 2006. From radio he had heard about how RTI could be useful in such cases to expose the corruption of Government officials and get justice. He waged a relentless battle with the authorities after some educated villagers helped him to file his first RTI application and eventually got the road restored to good condition. Thereafter Ala became a leading and honest RTI activist and a deliverer for not just his own villagers but also people of the area in many other cases including one relating to mine mafia. IN one case he helped villagers to save the Gauchar village Pasture land from going to an industrialist which was against the rules. In another case he traced several bogus voters listed in the voting list. The villager made him a sarpanch in appreciation.
